New Books and Hot Lamb

Well, what a week. It started off with a visit to Cardross Primary. Yvonne, the headmistress, was really nice and very welcoming. The school donated £100 to Asthma UK after the workshops and she wrote me a lovely letter of thanks. I also got the news that my preschool, P1,2,3 book Tiffy and Toffy is to be published in September. This will broaden my repertoire a little and allow me to enthuse about another love of my life – wildlife. I’m putting a workshop together on that front based round the series. The first book – Tiffy and Toffy – The Squashed-Bramble Pie, looks great and should retail around £4.99. I also got the news that the Western Isles Libraries are supporting the cover competition for my book, Windscape, another children’s novel due out in Oct/Nov 2010. After all that it was off to The Highland Show at Ingleston. 100,000 people, sheep and cattle all getting sunburned. It was great to be out and about in Edinburgh again and eat some great food in The Cavalry Club. Harper Collins has The Magic Scales as a sample on it’s authonomy site and the books have been flying out of the door. I sat for an hour signing copies last night. Just waiting for a fairly important review from Mr Ripley on Return to Denthan and still working on some other projects for Olida. Workshops available for the new term should be:
1. Just Imagine – Writing stories, The Denthan Series, design your own monster and much more. P4,5,6,7,S1,2.
2. Totally Random – Group story is formed using syndicate work, mind maps and ‘the random machine.’ P4,5,6,7,S1,2.
3. Windscape – Looks at the new adventure book set in the western Isles but also opens up discussion, through interactive exercises, about wind turbines, oil exploration and other forms of ‘clean energy’. P4,5,6,7,S1,2.
4. Wildlife in Writing – Readings, drawings, learn about Scottish wildlife and find out about other books that feature animals. Nursery, P1,2,3.
