The Winds of Change

With Windscape finally printed and on release I began putting together a bit of a kid’s roadshow, where I get to talk about the new book and the topics it covers: the wind farm debate, friendship, racism and bullying. I tried this new author presentation out in a few great schools and it seemed to work pretty well. The kids get lots of chances to interact and delve deep into some of my influences and writing techniques. They also hear how asthma got me into writing.

I talk about my time working in a crazy bear-reserve, being chased by 600kg predators and dodging the landed gentry – there’s another book in there some day, and also about touring the Southern States of America with a rock band, some of whom went onto play with the likes of Alice Cooper and Aerosmith. Everything I’ve done over the last 30 years has given me loads of material that I can dip into from time to time. The WINDSWEPT AND INTERESTING talk lasts 50mins or so and is aimed at P6 through to S2 children, so about 9 or 10 years and upwards. Details are on the contact an author site. http://www.contactanauthor.co.uk/authorpage.php?id=436

I was also asked to inject a bit of fun into the lives of some kids from the CHILD BEREAVEMENT NETWORK. A daunting task but well worthwhile as these resilient little heroes (aged between 3 and 10) threw themselves into the puppetry, drawing and music that surrounds the Tiffy Toffy workshops.

As Christmas creeps closer, I have quite a few party nights to navigate and a new book to test out on my unsuspecting daughter, Ruth. The Xmas tree went up today and it was nice to have Joe’s help with that one. Hope everyone has a great holiday when it comes.

On a Christmassy note, I will donate £1.99 to the charity Asthma UK during the month of December, for every copy of Windscape purchased from the http://www.samwilding.com site.

Below are some of the snaps from last month.
