Split the Difference

As the last of my holidays for the summer comes to an end, I seem to be heading into busy times. I have an exciting book festival coming up in October – The Encounters Festival. This is based in and around the Lanark library network and sounds as if it will have some great attractions. I’ll post the link to the festival brochure below. I’m performing all three of my workshops, so will have the guitar handy and will work with children from 3 to about 13. I hope to have the first copies of my new fantasy book – TALISMAN, handy on the day. This will kick off a new seven book series with Strident Publishing.

It’s also getting busy on the Olida front. There, my publisher – Allan Sneddon, is putting together the trip of a lifetime. Still waiting on word of final funding but it looks as though my picture books for younger kids – The Tiffy Toffy series, may be involved in teaching children in the Balinese Highlands. A Scottish Highlander helping Balinese Highlanders. That would be nice. Although, I’m not sure I qualify as a Highlander, being born in Helensburgh, which is right on the fault line. More on that trip soon, but it looks like a long haul for a very good cause.

Back to Split in Croatia, where the Adriatic Sea is as clear as a bell and Ancient Rome is very much at your fingertips. There are so many great sites there, where you can touch and feel everything as it was. Not barriers or guards. You can talk to centurions and trace your fingers over the very pillars the Emperor Diocletian. Faced with military problems he decided in 286 to divide the Roman Empire between himself in the east and Maximian in the west; he initiated the last persecution of the Christians in 303 (245-313). Nasty.

Off to the island of Skye tomorrow…
